Chloramphenicol is bacteriostatic, meaning it prevents germs from growing by preventing the creation of key proteins that bacteria need to develop, replicate, and multiply.
Precautions of Chloramphenicol and Hydrocortisone Eye Ointment
- This ointment is for external use only, and the dose and the duration of the treatment will be directed by the concerned healthcare expert. Do not use without consultation.
- This must be used with clean hands, and it should be gently placed under the lower eyelid. After using this ointment, the individual should not do any activity that requires attention.
- If you are allergic to hydrocortisone, chloramphenicol, or any of the other ingredients in this medicine, you should not use Chloramphenicol and Hydrocortisone Eye Ointment.
- If you have viral corneal diseases, eye infections caused by mycobacteria, or children under the age of three, do not use the ointment.
- Do not use this medication within 15 to 20 minutes after applying any other eye care pharmaceutical, tell your doctor before using this medication if you are already using any other eye medication
Side Effects of Chloramphenicol and Hydrocortisone Eye Ointment

Directions to Use
- Read the proper instructions present on the label and follow the directions to use given by your healthcare professional properly.
- Wash your hands properly before and after using Chloramphenicol and Hydrocortisone Eye Ointment. Lie down on your bed or any comfortable place by looking at the top, and use your middle finger to create a pocket in your lower eyelid. Gently squeeze the ointment and fill the prescribed amount into the pocket
- Do not let the tube tip come into contact with your hands, eyes, or any surface to make it germ-free. Store it in a safe, cool, and dry place away from the reach of sunlight, children, and pets.
- Gently close your eyes and roll it easily to spread the ointment properly into the eye. Keep your eye closed for at least 5 to 10 minutes and let it absorb properly.
- Keep applying the ointment throughout the entire period recommended by your physician, even if you start feeling better before the treatment is completed. Halting the medication prematurely may result in the infection coming back.
